Hello Sebastian! What exactly do you do at TRILUX, and how long have you been there?

I am a physicist and work at TRILUX as a team leader in the research department. I have a variety of administrative tasks, but fortunately still have enough time left ove r for my own research. I formulate phenomena from reality as a mathematical model to draw insights from them. That makes my job extremely exciting for me.

Where does your fascination for the topics you deal with every day come from?

Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to understand phenomena from science, nature and technology. My enthusiasm for such topics has always been there with me. I am very happy to be able to live out this urge in research at TRILUX.

111 years have passed since the foundatio n of TRILUX in 1912 until today: In which year would
you have liked to live and why?

To see the first moon landing in 1969 would have been great.

What do you consider to be the three most important lighting inventions of the last 111 years?

Since we are just saying goodbye to almost all other light sources: light-emitting diodes! The second invention I would mention is lasers. Even though we don't use them at TRILUX, I find them fascinating. Both technologies can only be understood with quantum mechanics. It was the first light source developed in the 20th century, and for me, it is also one of the most important advances in lighting technology of the last 111 years.

When do you "turn off the lights" - how do you relax after work?

Music on, world off. Or, in this case: lights off, music on... For me, there's no better way to switch off after work than with music. I play the trumpet in an orchestra. It's great fun, provides distraction and is a nice activity in the company of like-minded people.
